Discouraged

It was suggested today that I take two weeks off training to heal.

My back is still hurting. At times it is bad. Really bad.

I hate time off. All I can think is ‘lost time’. Time I could be getting stronger, faster or more conditioned.

What is this obsession I have? Maybe I need help.

I don’t think the obsession is bad, especially if it’s keeping you healthy.

It’s just that this particular circumstance appears to be a conflict (on the surface) because for your long-term health (and getting stronger, faster, more conditioned in the short term) you have to let your back heal, and to do that you will have to take a bit of a break from some of the good things you have been doing and will eventually resume when you’re ready.

Just think of it this way: if you don’t let it heal right, you won’t really achieve any of your goals (short or long term) and you would definitely regret that. Plus, you’d still be in pain, and your back could get even worse and develop problems that have more serious long-term consequences and are even harder to recover from.

So I would suggest channeling your obsession for health and fitness through the filter of logic, which would dictate that letting it heal is ultimately the best way to satisfy that obsession / goal. :-)
